We booked this as a one night stopover returning from a European holiday. The hotel was not clean on arrival, and the corridors and reception area were full of rubbish and cages containing dirty sheets, pillows etc. Check in was quick but getting into the room with the PIN code was a nightmare and took a good five minutes. The room was basic, not overly clean and did not resemble the marketing photos. The sink is in the room, as is the shower, and only the toilet is in a separate room behind a door. The sink had lots of cigarette burns round it and the shower head is fixed; my wife is 5’ 4” and the water shot over her head onto the opposite wall. The fixed head also meant the floor outside was soaking wet when stepping out. The weather was hot and as there was no air conditioning, we had to have the window wide open (if you have children, it’s worth bearing in mind there are no safety catches on them) which from a security perspective was concerning. More cigarette burns were on the windowsill, and we noticed the tarpaulin covering part of a damaged roof. On the plus side, the location is quiet and we were not disturbed. For some reason, few places appeared to be open locally, and we ate at McDonald's for dinner. As the breakfast in the hotel the next morning looked shockingly poor (again, nothing like the photos) we looked for somewhere else for breakfast - even the McDonald’s didn’t open until 11am, so we just hit the road. In summary, this is quite possibly the worst hotel we’ve stayed in and we definitely won’t return.

Good short term accommodation in a strategic location. The room is pretty small but well organized and all basics are provided. There is no elevator, so take it into consideration if you are traveling with heavy luggages.

The hotel was clean and the area was very quiet. There is a large mall near by, as well as supermarkets, etc. Thionville is a good choice to stay at when going to Luxembourg, since it is only 25 min drive to Belval. It's the nearest normal city.

This hotel is located just off the Luxembourg-Thionville autoroute, but can be slightly tricky to find if you don't have GPS. You leave at Exit 38 of the motorway and turn right just after Suzuki. You then reach an intersection where you will see Formule 1 right ahead of you. Ibis Budget is on the same premises. The rooms are the same as at other Ibis Budget locations, but the towels are rougher than at some of their other hotels though. The location, despite its proximity to the motorway, is fairly quiet although room soundproofing seemed less efficient than at their other hotels. I could hear my neighbour's TV in the evening and the next morning. I don't know whether the TV was louder than normal or not, but I had never heard the next room's television in any other Ibis Budget hotel. I stayed one night here mainly to avoid the very high hotel prices in Luxembourg as it is a short drive to this hotel from the Luxembourg border. The breakfast was very good at the hotel with better choices than many of their other hotels. The staff member in charge at breakfast time was rather elusive though. I could have easily got away without paying for it, but I decided to pay regardless as an honest guest. I would certainly stay at this hotel again

The Ibis Budget hotel offers good value for money and is a recommended choice for a stopover when travelling by car through north-western France. The rooms are clean, the beds are comfy, though narrow and the in-room shower is refreshingly good. The hotel is in a quiet location for a good night sleep and still close to the motorway. The breakfast for only 6 Euro (reference February 2018) is surprisingly comprehensive, offering more variety than what you would expect. The Ibis Hotel close by in Thionville offers a bit more comfort across the entire range of services, including dinner. However, the Ibis Budget in the same location is good choice at a lower cost. There are a few places for dinner close to the hotel with American cuisine of the fast food category. Since you may be on a stopover, for convenience sake an exception for a limited culinary experience while in France is just ok. Furthermore, if you are looking for a hotel for a stopover along the motorway in this area, then I recommend to stay in one of the Ibis hotels in Thionville and not at the Ibis Budget Luxembourg South, along the motorway. The hotel of the same chain just across the border about 15 minutes’ drive is a bit more expensive, reflecting the higher location cost in Luxembourg.
