I have been a long-term customer of the Novotel chain and frequently stay at the Novotel Esplanade during my travels, almost monthly. Historically, my stays have been consistently pleasant, and I have always appreciated the friendly and helpful staff. However, in recent months, my experience at this property has declined. I have stayed here on five separate occasions this year alone. On two occasions, I booked and paid through the Accor app, only to be informed at check-in that my booking had been cancelled, requiring me to rebook on the spot. As someone who travels regularly for work, this is extremely frustrating and inconvenient. During my most recent stay, my booking was confirmed, but my room had a very strong smell of cigarettes throughout. While the staff promptly arranged for cleaners to attend to the room while I was out, the smell remained upon my return. Additionally, the air conditioning in the room was unusable due to a loud, disruptive noise. Despite these issues, the staff were consistently friendly and helpful, and I have no complaints regarding service. It seems the main concerns are with the rooms themselves rather than customer service. I hope this feedback is taken onboard and the room issues are addressed. I enjoy staying at this location due to its convenience, and I have had positive experiences here in the past. I would love to see the standard of the rooms restored so that future stays can meet the high expectations I have come to associate with Novotel.

I appreciate there had been a fire/partial ceiling collapse on the 5th floor prior to my stay - but being located on the 4th floor - the acrid smoke smell/air quality whilst in the lift and getting to my room was not acceptable. Whilst in my room with the AC on - the problem was not so bad. In my room (405) - the carpet was not acceptable - there were multiple stains of god knows what on the floor. I just didn't find the room met the standards of an Accor/Novotel Room.
