Unfortunately, my experience at the Winter Palace Luxor was very disappointing and far below what I would expect from a 5-star hotel. The breakfast experience was particularly poor. There were no accommodations for lactose-intolerant guests, and none of the ingredients were clearly labeled. This made it very confusing and stressful to know what was safe to eat, which is unacceptable for a hotel of this standard. The quality of the bakery items was also extremely disappointing. The bread and pastries were not fresh and tasted poor, and I would strongly suggest reconsidering the pastry chef or bakery standards. Cleanliness at the restaurant was another major issue. I encountered dirty cups and teapots, which seriously raises concerns about hygiene and attention to detail. Overall, the service, food quality, and cleanliness do not reflect a 5-star hotel in any way. Given the hotel’s reputation and pricing, this experience was genuinely surprising and disappointing. I would not recommend this hotel unless significant improvements are made.

This review is a modified version of what I wrote in December, following my High Tea experience at the Winter Palace. Below you will see my original review and then what I have added to it in response to the interaction with Wassem, customer service manager below that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is exactly what I fed-back to the establishment; Dear Sofitel Winter Palace I am writing to provide feedback on a rather disappointing high tea we have just experienced with you. As part of our Christmas Day celebrations, myself and my two daughters decided to spend a few hours experiencing what we imagined your establishment was famed for: quality and sophistication. Whilst the architecture, gardens and interior decor certainly lived up to this and the sandwiches were good, the desserts were awfully poor quality. We could find nothing ‘refined’, as advertised, in the artificial cream which filled the tartlets and which accompanied the scone nor the ‘jam’ which was a low grade, excessively sugary blend, totally void of real fruit. I am sorry to say that I will be reviewing your provision online, as I have presented it to you here and will not be recommending this as an experience. Customers expect a great deal more in terms of quality produce and sophistication: most of that provided as ‘high tea’ at the Sofitel Winter Palace simply fell spectacularly short. Regards ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Following my review, Wassem the customer service manager contacted me by telephone and we were able to chat over the situation. It is rare that a hotel takes responsibility like this. I think many just want you to hide with embarrassment. However, Wassem explained that they had discussed the review at manager level and wanted to take on board, and action the feedback. She invited us back for another High Tea. Unfortunately, we were heading to Aswan so could not re-visit the Winter Palace. Wassem suggested we experience the High Tea at the Old Cataract. She arranged that for us and we spent a few hours soaking in the atmosphere and the fabulous food there. When I say that it was nothing short of splendid, I truly mean that, as measured against a European standard. I will not fully review the Old Cataract here. I contacted Wassem again to thank her for showing us the quality that the Sofitel can attain. At that time, she asked, respectfully, if I would consider changing or removing the review of the Winter Palace. I replied that I would not delete the review or change my rating (as the experience was not a great one) but that I would modify it to include detail of the customer service follow up as this was superb and only fair that I comment on that. Done!

Fabulous building and beautiful gardens, very christmasy with everything lit up. This is well worth a visit, however, the drinks are very expensive and the food in the Russian 1886 was again very expensive and the food was poor and not French, the starter the fish soup was delicious however everything else the pigeon and shrimp the red mullet was awful, the apple tart desert was ok. Service is good it is a shame they do not have a good French chef. Overpriced and not worth it, have a look around and then eat elsewhere.

Amazing stay, highly recommend. Thank you to all the staff!

Amazing, the staff, quality of rooms, amenities (GORGEOUS gardens) all made the stay truly wonderful. We did half board including hotel bbq and breakfast and the New Year’s Eve gala - highly recommend and thank you to all the staff for making it so special. Thank you to the bartender and chef as well running the breakfast.
