Where do I start! We absolutely loved this resort! The snorkeling was some of the best I have had, and, it was right under my bungalow! The food, Omg, so good! They gave me an amazing canoe breakfast to die for! The Spa! Holy cow! We went twice because it was that good! We had facials (my husband has never had one, but says now he wants more)… The construction that was going on was always covered up so you don’t see any mess! Well done Sofitel….We did an excursion with Sam, a local who let us live like a Polynesian for a day! Net fishing, snorkeling, and the beautiful garden he and his wife created… Then invited us into his home and cooked the fish we caught with a spectacular meal! Thanks for the memories! We will be back!

Fine

I think the fact that we were on our honeymoon could’ve at least warranted a free flower Lei or something. With how expensive everything was at the resort and how much we paid to stay there it would’ve been cool to have some tiny acknowledgment.

Friendly staff and great location but...

The best parts of Sofitel are the over-water bungalow locations and the beautiful reef for snorkeling and swimming. The beds were very comfy and the staff was all very friendly. It was easy to get water gear (paddle boards, snorkel sets) and I really appreciated that those things were available at no additional cost. The shortcomings: - Check-in was painfully slow. The line was only 2 people at the counter ahead of us and we were kept waiting 45 minutes. Then when it was our turn, it was a slow process. I feel this should be improved upon. - As many stated in TripAdvisor reviews, the bathrooms in the bungalows are in need of updating. I know it's hard to keep a bathroom mold-free in a tropical climate, but the shower tile was moldy, and the drain was slow. The open-air feature of the shower it kind of cool, but makes it so that the bathroom never gets fully dry with all of the humidity coming in. It's wasteful of the air conditioning too. I'd rather have the option to completely close off the bathroom from the outside and open windows if you want. - The food in the restaurants was mostly good, but nothing was great. For the prices on a tiny island, in a luxury resort, I would have liked to love the food a little more. Nothing blew me away. - One night, during dinner, we were seated right next to the large folding doors that faced the oceanside. No screens, and tons of bugs were biting us and landing in our food. I asked an employee if we could close it. She came over and tried and said it wasn't able to close and walked away. That was a bummer. We couldn't wait to get out of there that night! - The service in the restaurants at dinner was often slow unless you got there right at the beginning. One night it took so long to get our order taken and receive our appetizer we had to ask a couple times. I think we waited 40 minutes to get our first course. Overall, we were happy with our stay but not overly impressed. We got a really good deal through Costco travel, but I think if I had paid a lot more, I would have been disappointed. Best part: LOCATION! Stunning :)

Beautiful Resort Overall

PorciniLover Couples - TripAdvisor review

We arrived a little before 10 am after taking the ferry over. We wanted to go straight into our room but it wasn’t ready yet (check-in starts at 2 pm). Naomi at the front desk offered us a day room to change in, but we figured it would be a short wait. We weren't able to get into our room until right around 2 pm. It was a lifelong dream to stay in an Overwater Bungalow and I was hoping the hotel would upgrade us into one because of our 10-year anniversary. One thing about Moorea – almost everyone is celebrating something. The whole trip we were among honeymooners, retirees, milestone anniversary guests, etc. Or in other words, we were not special. Naomi told us we could upgrade to an OWB for an additional $400 a night but we couldn't afford that. We had a “garden-view” room at the far end of the property, but we really liked the location. You could see the ocean easily from our porch. I would ask for a room as close to the ocean as possible since some “garden-view” rooms were farther back. We arrived to a heart made of local flowers on our bed. They gave us allergies so we quickly removed them. The amenities inside were nice … a minibar with 2 free beers, pineapple juice, seltzer, and 2 small water bottles daily. They had a nice espresso machine and robes/flashlight/umbrellas/big-TV-that-didn’t-get-any-English-channels, etc. The resort definitely has more of a European vibe to it. On the whole, I was kinda shocked at how unaccommodating the staff was. For instance, we went to the Pure restaurant on site one evening when my wife had an upset stomach. She just wanted something bland and asked the waitress to see the kid’s menu. Our server refused, saying “It’s not possible.” Meanwhile the lady next to us was eating pizza from the kid’s menu. We were lightly scolded for filling our water bottles at the breakfast. There was nowhere on the resort to get filtered water, and the small bottles in our room weren’t enough. They give you cards for each towel you get and make you sign for a hefty deposit. Same for the snorkeling equipment and the American power adapters. It felt ticky tacky, especially considering the room rate. There were some language barriers too. We waited 40 minutes for a latte at breakfast and after we asked for it again, they just brought steamed milk On our last night, I tried again for the Overwater Bungalow upgrade but Naomi said no. If we wanted the OWB, it would be $400 that night. I asked her if she saw my note about our anniversary and she told us the flowers on the bed was the “gift.” We asked for a late checkout instead and we had to fight to get an extra hour. A little while later they did send over a Sofitel shirt and sarong, but at that point we weren’t interested in advertising for them. Overall, we felt the staff was a little unwelcoming. One exception though -- we LOVED Heidi and Yumi at the diving center. They were the kindest people we met there. And the resort itself was really beautiful. We loved the amazing snorkeling, paddle boats, kayaks, ping pong. The white sand is somewhat rocky (wear water shoes if you can), but the water is magnificent. We loved interacting with a lost dog who wandered around the property and the chickens it chased. There’s a pool too but we didn’t use it much because it wasn’t heated. I’m sure it’d be great on a hot day though. There’s a nice running trail you can take by the tiny airport, and if you walk to the beach next to the resort, there’s a really good poke food truck that's open until 2:30 pm. I thought the breakfast was great too… the espresso drinks were a nice touch and I loved the passion fruit.
