Understanding London’s Train Stations

To help you out when you arrive in the city, we’ve outlined London’s busiest stations, which London Underground lines they connect with, and some things to do nearby.

Getting into central London by rail is easy, whether you’re travelling into the capital from another part of the UK or are arriving at St Pancras International from Europe.

London Waterloo

London Waterloo

London Waterloo, which is the capital’s busiest station, is in the central London Borough of Lambeth, and is the London terminus of the National Rail network.
What’s Nearby?
The station is on the South Bank near to the Southbank Centre, Royal Festival Hall and National Theatre, while the London Eye and London Dungeon are a short walk away.

London Waterloo is serviced by Waterloo tube station, which is in Zone 1, and interconnects with four different Underground lines:

London Victoria

London Victoria

London Victoria, in Belgravia in the City of Westminster, is the main terminus of the main line to Gatwick Airport and Brighton, and the Chatham main line to Dover. 
What’s Nearby?
The station is near to the Victoria Palace Theatre and Westminster Cathedral Tower, which provides excellent views of city. Victoria Coach Station is a few minutes’ walk away.

Liverpool Street

Liverpool Street is to the north of the City of London and serves as the main London terminus for the West Anglia Main Line, Great Eastern Main Line and Stansted Express.
What’s Nearby?
The Old Spitalfields Market is nearby, while the UK’s third biggest skyscraper, 110 Bishopsgate, offers stunning views of the city below and is home to two restaurants.

London Bridge

London Bridge, south of the river in Southwark, connects Thameslink services to Gatwick and Luton Airport, as well as Southeastern services to south London, Kent and East Sussex.

The station is close to many famous historical attractions, including Tower Bridge and the Tower of London, plus contemporary landmarks including The Gherkin and the Shard.

London King’s Cross

London King’s Cross

London King’s Cross railway station is in the London borough of Camden and is the southern terminus of the East Coast Main Line to North East England and Scotland. 
What’s Nearby?
King’s Cross, which is adjacent to St Pancras International, is near to Camden Town with its world famous market, while Regent’s Park and Primrose hill are just to the west. 
Passing through? Have a picture taken with a trolley on route to Platform 9 3/4s, where students boarded the mythical Hogwarts Express in the magical world of Harry Potter!
The British Library, which contains the Magna Carta and handwritten Beatles lyrics, is nearby.

St Pancras International

St Pancras International is the London terminus for the High Speed 1 rail network which connects London with France, Belgium, and the Netherlands via the Channel Tunnel.
The station provides East Midlands Trains services to the north and Thameslink services across London.

St Pancras International, which is adjacent to King’s Cross, is near to Camden Town and market, while Regent’s Park and Primrose hill are just to the west.
