The best activities of Amsterdam

When arriving in Amsterdam by train one of the first things you will notice is a large tower with swings on the roof across the IJ river on the north side of Amsterdam. The ADAM Lookout on top of the tower is an observation deck with a beautiful panoramic view of the city. Due to many low-rise buildings in the city centre, this is one of the few places where you can see every nook and cranny of the city.  

When returning safely back on street level it is time to visit The 9 Streets and experience the real Amsterdam, with its small alleyways, canals, and the swarm of cyclists. The names of the individual streets (and what unites them) refer to a time in which the old skin tanning industry was still a major market within Amsterdam. Currently, The 9 Streets is a hotspot for a variety of small shops and restaurants. When visiting The 9 Streets it is recommended to visit one of the many vintage clothing shops such as Episode on the Berenstraat (Bearstreet). Or Zipper on the Huidenstraat (Skinstreet). Amsterdam is home to a variety of world-famous museums. Alongside the more classical museums with paintings that stem from the golden ages, Amsterdam is also home to a lot of modern art museums. When traveling to Amsterdam and interested in contemporary art it is a must to go to Stedelijk Museum for one of the world’s richest modern art collections. The Stedelijk museum started as a municipal museum in 1835, giving attention to multiple disciplines, but focused solely on the modern art museum since the 1970s.  Located at the Museumplein, the Stedelijk museum could easily be combined with a visit to the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh museum.

Apart from its cultural and historical highlights, Amsterdam is also known for its vibrant nightlife. Treat yourself with a drink in one of the many cocktail bars that Amsterdam has to offer.
