Under the sun
You were looking for sunshine? Here it is! As soon as you set foot on the island, look around, dive into the warm azure waters of the lagoon or simply do nothing and lay on the beach. Look up: coconut and filaos trees are shadowing incredible beaches such as Mont Choiy, Trou aux Biches, Belle Mare, Flic en Flac or Blue Bay and its coral reef. The youngest are getting bored? Take them on a trip to Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel: the waterfalls and coloured earths should amaze them. Option 2: take them to the lively market in the cosmopolitan town of Port Louis. Option 3: there is the Blue Penny Museum, the botanical garden in Pamplemousses, a few miles up north. On your way, take a break at The Sugar Adventure exhibition. After that, they should ask for a swim (and a cream pie, the island specialty!). Head to LeMorne Peninsula, its beautiful shores and its iconic rocky crag. East of the island, the Ile aux Cerfs is not to be missed. North of the island, Grand Baie is awaiting: a relaxing and beautiful spot.
Get off the beaten track
Mother Earth has given it all to Mauritius. The South, less famous, is full of surprises: on the coast, a mineral landscape between Souillac and Bambous Virieux ; the East coast betwenn Poste Lafayette to Roches Noires is absolutely gorgeous. Inside the island, head to the waterfalls of Tamarin. The youngest should have a great time at La Vanille Réserve des Mascareignes where wild animals live a peaceful life. Feel like Indiana Jones in the Gorges de la Rivière Noire Gorges or on the extraordinary road of Pleine Champagne. Go higher on the valley de Ferney and the Domaine de l’Etoile where you will discover a diverse fauna and flora, on foot, on bicycle or quad biking. Want to feel like you are at the end of the world? Head to Rodrigues, heaven on Earth where you can enjoy a spiny lobster, fresh out of the water of Saint François. From Pointe Coton to Anse Mourouk, beaches are incredible. You will have trouble making your mind : anse Sally, Saint-François, Trou d’Argent and its cliffs, Graviers...A wild landscape that will take your breath away : white sand beaches at the bottom of green valley’s where volcanic stone can be often seen.
Sports, sports, sports
Into sports? Gather your fins and golf clubs or let’s go sailing! Mauritius plans to amaze you. Diving into the deep blue sea is something to remember and should not be missed. Mauritius waters are partly encircled by coral reef: submarine wildlife is absolutely spectacular. More into wind surfing? Mauritius has lots of top spots for kite and wind surfing. From le Morne to La Pointe d’Esny, the lagoon is simply a wonderful playground. Looking for a wave? Even if Mauritius waves cannot really compare to La Réunion’s, surfers could be happily surprised around Tamarin. Looking for a green course? Beginners and aficionados should be equally pleased: many golf courses can be found in Mauritius such as Pointe de Flacq Peninsula or the Ile aux Cerfs.
