Feel Refreshed on a Tour of Sydney’s Best Breweries

Sydney is home to some world-class breweries, and we're taking a look at some of the best.

Brewskis. Cold Ones. Stubbies. Whatever you choose to call them, we can all agree that if there were ever an official drink of Australia, it would be beer. A staple of any barbecue, footy grand final and Sunday afternoon at the local, beer has played a role in forming Australian culture - you belong to your trib, whether it's IPA, pale ale or funky sour. But there is something about sampling beers directly from the source that's special - it allows you to connect with the passionate producers behind them and get the full experince as the owners intended.

Independent breweries have been popping up all over the country, but none more than in Sydney and its inner suburbs. Similar to the Top 5 Wineries You Must Visit in the Hunter Valley, this article is your guide to the best Sydney breweries, where to find them and what you can look forward to drinking.

Their range includes flavoursome beers with ingredients sourced from all over the world, and cans have adventure themes - hiking, beaches, road trips to encourage you to explore. Pop in and try a Raspberry Berliner Weisse or their flagship pale ale, the Everyday Ale or grab some mates for and head in on Monday night for trivia - with happy hour prices all night, even if you lose you'll still be winning.

Young Henry's

Young Henry’s has solidified its place in Sydney's (and Australia's) music culture with collaborations with bands such as Dune Rats, DZ Deathrays and even Rolling Stone magazine. Their Newtown brewery continues the rock'n'roll vibe and includes a range of easy-drinking beers that can wash down some great local bites from the food trucks. Wildflower Brewing

Wild fermentation is not common among breweries, but Wildflower Brewing has made it their mission to use wild yeasts and bacteria to ferment their beer. If mother nature were making craft beer, it would look like the St Phoebe Wild Ale tree-ripened Ebony Sun plums hand-picked from the orchard it came from. Pop into their Marrickville location and have a go at these complex, unique, but very drinkable beers and try their cellar door tours, which has an earthy, Australian vibe.
