Amazing experience, great check in and the hotel was kind enough to give us a free upgrade to suite and the room has amazing view. Love the history of the hotels and still so well preserved. Manage to try the Haerlin restaurant at the hotel, another 2 thumbs up. Great location and very convenient to move around. Definitely will return.

Love this hotel. Beyond the great and personalized service, I love how the have multiple spaces - multiple restaurants/bars, but even within those the spaces are extremely well designed. Staff greets you by name and is well trained. You wont get this kind of experience in many hotels (certainly not in North America).

Unhappy end to an otherwise lovely dinner

I had a reservation for dinner at The Grill as friends from Hamburg recommended it. Dinner was excellent, I had oysters and lobster and crepes Suzette. I then asked for the bill which was €123. I only had three €50 notes and expected to receive change back from the €150 which I left in the bill folder and was then going to leave a tip of €20 for the waitress. I waited 20 minutes, but had still not received my change back so I got up and walked to the desk and requested my change! I asked her why I had not received my change back she replied she thought it was already her tip and then said it was a misunderstanding!! I was quite annoyed as it spoilt an otherwise nice dinner. This hotel restaurant normally has an excellent reputation and needs to meet customers expectations for quality service. Kathleen, the restaurant manager, apologized for this perceived misunderstanding and offered me some lovely chocolates to enjoy.

We had a very pleasant stay at the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful, and the facilities were charming and nicely kept. There was one thing, however; Upon arrival, the receptionist asked us if we would like to upgrade to a room with view of the lake. We had looked at all the prices and rooms from home and we had booked a room with a garden view, which we were happy with as it was within our budget. He took us to the room with lake view, we felt so lucky, and when we were about to accept the room he informed us that it would be an additional €300 per night. If we were interested in that, we would have booked the room from home. Instead of making us feel welcome in the hotel, we afterwards felt less happy with our actual room. This salesstrategy is completely off, and frankly it’s rude.
